I have just put on my site a very interesting oil on panel of Cromwell's daughter, Elizabeth pleading for the life of Charles 1st. An interesting symbolic and very well executed work by William Fisk. This is one of a series of works on this subject matter which he painted in and around 1840. On a very thick hardwood panel this work would look superb in a period property. You can see it HERE
Of interest also is an oil on panel of William Shakespeare. It looks to be very old and perhaps contemporary to his lifetime ...if not no later than 17th century when a few portraits cropped up. However there are 'faked up' examples about so I would not make any categorical claims about this work! You can see it HERE
